Christmas in St. Ultan's - 2020

Hi Everyone,

We are all very busy getting ready for Christmas Celebrations in St. Ultan’s. As you all know this year celebrations will be different, but we will make sure to spread Christmas Cheer, with lots of activities for the boys and girls. Have a look at the slide show below for more information, and stay tuned to your teachers class dojo in the next two weeks.

Christmas Concerts

This year we will be celebrating Christmas a little differently in St. Ultans. Instead of our regular Christmas concerts in the hall, we will be showing them on Zoom. All classes have been busy singing, rapping and dancing and have recorded their performances for you all to enjoy. We will have a junior show and a senior show. The children will watch them in school and both shows will be streamed on Zoom in the evenings for parents and guardians to enjoy at home. Get some Christmas goodies, wear your Christmas jumpers and cosy up on the couch for a Christmas show right in your home! Further details to follow.

Christmas Window Competition

Classes from Junior Infants right up to sixth have been busy creating Christmas masterpieces. Each class have worked together in their bubble to decide upon a theme. They have brainstormed Christmas scenes and thought imaginatively about how they could portray them most creatively.  This week, the displays are beginning to appear up outside all of the classes ready for judging. All ideas have come straight from the children and their enthusiasm can be felt around the school.  There will be one winner in the junior end of the school (Junior Infants- 2nd) and another in the senior end (3rd-6th) The winning classes will enjoy a Christmas themed party!

St. Ultan's is a Changemaker School

St. Ultan’s Primary School is one of 15 Irish primary Changemaker Schools in the DCU Changemaker Schools Network.

The DCU Changemaker Schools Network is a community of practice and focused on sharing best practice in the areas of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship. 

Schools in the network frame their work within changemaking leadership practices focused the development of empathy, creativity, leadership and teamwork with their students.

All students are encouraged to identify as Changemakers. Schools support the vision and mission of the DCU Institute of Education; to transform the education system for the better. 

This year we will be working very hard in St. Ultan’s to teach all the children about our Changemaker identity. Stay tuned for updates and contributions we will be making to the Changemakers monthly Newsletters.

Presto Calendars

Next week Múinteoir Mairead will be very busy at the school gate every morning between 8.40-9.00 selling Presto Calendars for 2021.

These calendars are only €2 each, and all money raised goes towards the cost of running our Presto Music Project. All of the boys and girls really appreciate the continued support the comes from this fundraiser.

Updated Reminders about COVID-19 Symptoms

The HSE guidelines were updated in the past few weeks to include the following symptoms as reasons to keep children at home from school.

  • Sore Throat

  • Headache

  • Diarrhoea

This 4 main symptoms of COVID-19 include

  1. Temperature

  2. New Cough

  3. Shortness of breath

  4. Loss or change in sense of smell/taste

Garden of Remembrance

Each November in St. Ultans, we take time to celebrate the lives of those who have passed away, as part of “In November, we remember.”

Teachers discuss this with their classes and allow them the opportunity to share their memories with their peers.

Children have an opportunity to decorate a flower in honour of a person/people they have lost. These flowers sometimes include;

·         The name/names of those who have died

·         Words that remind them of the person/people (eg. Kind, hugs etc.)

·        Sometimes a little note to the person/people.

These flowers are displayed for everyone to see in a special area in school beside our outdoor classroom. We hope you like our Garden of Remembrance.
