Welcome Múinteoir Brendan

I am delighted to let you all know that Múinteoir Brendan our new Principal will be starting in St. Ultans tomorrow, Monday 5th December.
He has asked me to pass on the message below to all of you.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support and patience over the past few months while I have been Acting Principal. I really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to continue to work with all of you as Deputy Prinicipal, and supporting Múinteoir Brendan in his new role. I hope you all join me in giving him a warm welcome to Cherry Orchard.
Thanks,
Maria

Message from Múinteoir Brendan

Dear Parents/Guardians & Families
My name is Brendan Goggin and I am looking forward to taking up the role of principal in St. Ultan's this Monday. I have been working in Francis Street School in the wonderful community of the Liberties in Dublin 8 for the last 15 years. I am now very excited to move over to St. Ultan's and meeting everyone on Monday and over the next few weeks. I am looking forward to getting to know and working with all of the children, you the families and the wider community of Cherry Orchard.
In the mean-time please feel free to contact the school as normal and, as always, everyone will do their best to help you. If you have any questions or concerns, you can call us in the office on 01-6434599, chat with Sarah at the gate in the mornings, or contact your child’s teacher on dojo.
Warm wishes
Brendan

Book Fair

Hi all,

The book fair will be returning to St Ultans this week and will run from Monday 21st to Friday 25th.

Every class will have an opportunity to browse the books and then if there is anything they want to buy, they will have a second day when they can actually buy the books.

There is no pressure on anyone to buy any of the books but for every book sold, the school is given points that allow us to get free books for the school.

The fair will be cash only and the children will only be able to buy books on Wednesday and Thursday so please don’t send in money until your child’s buying slot with their class.

Thanks,
Brian

National Childrens Choir

Hi Everyone,
I want to make sure you are all aware of a very special event that is happening in our school on Wednesday 30th November.

All of the boys and girls in 5th and 6th class, are very lucky to be enrolled in Ireland’s National Children’s Choir. The National Children’s Choir is something that we can be very proud to be a part of. The children have been practising very hard with Mairead Deiseach our PRESTO Music Director, and their class teachers, learning their parts for their NCC songs.

On Wednesday 30th we will have children from 2 schools visiting St. Ultans for their first practice day together. There will be 2 more days like this where we travel to other school to practice with them. This is all in preparation for a concert which will take place in the National Stadium in Tallaght after the Easter Break. The dates for this performance with other children from all over Dublin will be confirmed closer to the time.

If we are very lucky, a certain number of children from 5th and 6th will be selected to perform at a concert in the National Concert hall, on 27th 28th or 29th May.

Class Teachers of 5th & 6th have shared information with parents about where to access music for children to share and practice at home, so that they are confident when they are performing in school.

All the information about NCC is here: https://www.nationalchildrenschoir.ie/

If you have any questions please check in with your child’s class teacher.

Thanks,

Maria

As you all know it is so important for children to be in school everyday.
We will be doing an attendance drive for the next 20 days, with certificates and prizes for every child that is in every day for 4 weeks.
The children learned about this last week in assembly and are excited.
Thanks,

Meetings with Teachers

Hi Everyone,

Here is a reminder about the Meetings with Teachers that are happening next Wednesday & Thursday.

Teachers have been busy trying to get in contact with you this week to arrange time-slots for you to meet with them.

On the day of your appointment, there will be staff at main reception and in the corridors to direct you to your child’s classroom.

Each teacher will have a timetable on their door.

Please wait outside until your allotted time, and knock on the classroom door when it is time for your appointment. Please remember that each appointment is 10 minutes only.

If you need a follow-up phone call or appointment the teacher can arrange this for you.

If you have any questions at all please let me know. We look forward to seeing you all back in school and we're excited for you to see the childrens classrooms next week.

Happy Halloween!

Well done to all the boys and girls who dressed up yesterday for Halloween… The atmosphere was fantastic and we had such a fun day in school. A lot of hard work and effort, went into making some spectacular outfits. There was so much creativity to see, in all the home made costumes.

We could have had so many winners in every class, but here are the winners on the day.

And here are all the fabulous costumes from all our classes! Well done everyone. Happy Halloween!

Thank You Dublin Fire Brigade

The boys and girls from 3rd and 4th Class were absolutely delighted to have Dublin Fire Brigade visit us here in St. Ultan’s last week.

The children learned what to do in an emergency and what it takes to become a Fire Person. They also got to seen all of the different parts of the Fire Engine and all of the equipment it carries for different types of emergencies. The children got to see all of the protective gear that fire fighters have to wear and bring with them into a fire and showed us how their safety alarm, oxygen tank and torch work. Some children even got to try on some of the gear, and to spray water from a fire hose. The children learned a lot about teamwork, and what it is like to be part of a fire brigade team, and how the fire fighters look out for each other when they are doing their jobs.

We are so grateful to Dublin Fire Brigade for taking the time out of their busy day to come and visit us! They even had to rush off at the end when they got a live call to go and help someone. Real life heroes!
